The time for mental health parity for all in Michigan is now.  A federal parity law is in the implementation phase and will be effective for employer-sponsored health plans only for employer groups of 51 or more employees in plans renewing in October of 2009 or in 2010.

Smaller employer groups of 50 and under will be depending on state law.  Two million citizens in Michigan have employer-sponsored health coverage with unequal  benefits.

42 other states have passed some form of parity legislation.

Parity is about fair and equal coverage for mental health and substance use disorders in health insurance benefits...more about parity

Bills have been re-introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives and referred to the House Health Policy Committee.
